Half of Screen Turn Grey

On occation, when I am running a VBA macro, the left side of the screen will
trun grey with the right side displaying the normal spreadsheet. The only
way I can resolve the issue is close the workbook, close Excel then reverse
the sequence. Does anyone know what causes this issue?

I am running Office 2002.
