Does anybody out there know if it is possible to create 'Hammock' activities
in MSP 2003 similar to those used in P3 ?

If, by hammock, you mean an activity whose start and end dates are
dynamically linked to start/end dates of other activities in the plan so
that it's duration matches the interval between the dates it spans and
moves with it, then yes.

Use copy and paste special/link to copy and past the required dates.

Thanks for that advise Julie, i'll try it and see how i get on. If i resource
these hammocks for costing of a tender purposes, will the costs alter
automatically in accordance with the date changes if i extend the time
between the driving activities ?

Hello Andy,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

To your question: As long as the hammock task is fixed unit (the default) if
the task duration increases or decreases, the amount of work (and therefore
the cost) will increase or decrease as well.

I hope this helps.

I tried this tonite. The variable duration of the activity only works if the
task type is fixed units or fixed work. If it is fixed duration it won't
work.

An interesting twist is that if the task type is fixed units it calculates
to be one day longer than fixed work.
