Other scheduling software provide hammock tasks. These are tasks that spread
over the length of several other tasks (this is not a summary task) and
begins when the first task starts (SS) and ends when the last task ends (FF).
It fluctuates as the underlying tasks change. The difference between a
hammock task and a summary task is that a hammock task does not represent the
underlying tasks (accumulation of duration, work effort, etc.), but simply
has a SS relationship with the first and a FF relationship with the last. You
can also assign resources to it.
Example: 5 tasks represent the steps needed to write a document. Each step
is done by different people. There is a QA auditor that is required to
oversee the entire process and spends 5% of her time doing so (doesn't audit
specific milestones). A hammock task would be a great way to setup this
capability. Does MS Project have the ability to setup a hammock task?
