Handheld Sync Problem

K

K. J. Lewis

I saw the previous post about the new Handheld Sync Installer program
and followed the instructions. Everything seemed to be fine except
that I am unable to open the Entourage Conduit (double-clicking does
nothing). All the other conduits will open and bring up the screen
that provides the choices of what should be done at sync.

What should my next step be?

As far as I remember, the "normal" way to proceed is not to double-click the
conduit but to open the HotSync manager application instead. From there you
should have a list of active conduits and the possibility to set up the way
you want the conduit to behave.

I posted a reply for you in the Entourage grou where I first saw your post.

I guess I should have been more specific. I did open the HotSync
Manager and selected Conduit Settings in the menu. I then was
presented with a list of conduits. The Entourage conduit was the only
one that was non-responsive.

ALSO...this is repeatable. I installed it on my home desktop, too,
and got the same results.

The Handheld Installer in 2004 does not work.
Microsoft needs to address this bug ASAP for all the PALM users
upgrading to Office 2004.
There are many of us.

It does work.

It is not broken.

I respectfully suggest you check you own environment because the problem is
not apparent to most users.

Whilst I appreciate that you have already checked some of these things, they
are repeated here for completeness:

1. First, go to /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/ and
run the programme 'Handheld Sync Installer'.

2. Now, go to /Palm and double-click the icon 'Hot Sync Manager'

3. In the 'Hotsync Software Setup' window, make sure that Hotsyn is enabled,
and under the 'connection settings', make sure a valid connection method is
listed.

4. Choose 'Conduit Settings' from the HotSync menu

5. Make sure the correct handheld user is selected in the drop-down menu

6. Under 'Entourage Conduit', make sure that your current identity is
selected.

7. Make sure that the required settings are correctly sleected under the
'entourage conduit settings'

This all works flawlessly for me, and many others.

Well I'm a bit clueless here... I tried (again) on my Mac and I have
absolutely no problem. I can setup the conduit from the HotSync app and
I can also sync without any problem.

The only things I can think of are the classic:
- repair permissions
- check hard drive for damage
- make sure you are using the latest version of the Palm apps (4.2.1 I
believe)
- make sure you don't have any conflicting conduit active (eg the Palm
calendar and task conduit, iSync conduit...).

There are many of us.

And it works for most of us. So the problem can't be with the conduit. It's
got to be with the setup on your computer or some corruption in your
database or in the Palm's.

I have the exact same problem. I cannot open the Entourage Conduit settings
in Office 2004. My palm will not sync at all. How can I get it to work.

You open Entourage Conduit in Hot Sync Manager, not Office.

Something else to try (see my earlier posts for more complete description)
is to close Entourage X if it is running (I believe it causes this
conflict), delete the 2004 conduit, restart, install 2004 conduit, restart.
Then try double-clicking and you should get the new window with sync
options. It takes some patience, but it worked for me, and was repeatable.

I still cannot get it to work after doing all of these things. Any other
thoughts?

I have deleted Office v.X altogether. I only have Office 2004 on my system.

Have you tried clicking on the square above that says "Conduit Settings"?
That works.
