handWriting note wihtout a tabletPC

Any mouse or mouse substitute (such as a Wacom external
tablet) will work to provide input to OneNote.

However, unless you're running a Tablet PC with the
Tablet PC version of Windows XP you will not be able to
have your handwriting recognized. Anything you "write"
with the mouse or pen will be treated as a drawing.

OneNote relies on the handwriting recognition features of
the Tablet PC and does not have a handwriting recognition
engine of its own.

THanks Erik,

H-Writing recognition doesn't count much for me ont that point.

Do you know any tablet free Stylus that could do the job, as taking e-notes
while speaking on the phone for example ?

I don't know of any specifically, but if a device has a driver that works
with Windows then it can be used to "write" in OneNote.

There are a couple of ways around this and be able to input text into
one note WITHOUT a TabletPC.

The first is to use MS Office's handwriting input tool (installed as
an option under, I belive, 'alternative input options'). With this
tool you can input text using a mouse or external tablet into any
Office application (including IE).

Another alternative is to use a third party product. I use ritePen
which works great. (PenOffice is another popular one).

That being said, there is one thing you will not be able to do without
a TabletPC, and that is convert inked (graphic) input into text (the
above methods convert to text while you write, the TabletPC allows you
to convert later). You will also not be able to search inked input
(unless you use one of the methods above).

That's true, however without a Tablet PC, you're not using the Ink engine
and creating digital Ink which can be converted to text. The sample rate on
a non-Tablet PC will be the same as your mouse, which is roughly one-third
(or less) of the sampling rate in digital Ink on a Tablet, therefore
creating a picture or drawing which are not recognized in the commands.

I think that's what I said! ;)
