Handwriting recognition component of Word

I just installed the handwriting recognition component to my Word 2003. Will
I be able to use this with handwritten notes and lists that I intend to scan
into my computer? Do I need to save or convert the document into a specific
format to be recognized?

Has anyone done this successfully?
