Handwriting Recognition on Windows XP Pro

Hi All,
I hope this is an appropriate location for this posting.

I am using the base handwriting recognition software that came with Windows
XP Pro on a vanilla laptop. Is there improved handwriting recognition
software available for this operating system?

I am running Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 1 on a vanilla IBM
ThinkPad T30 (not any kind of pen tablet).

In 2003 I was told that something better for Excel would be available in
mid-2004. I'm looking for better control in Excel, but I'm also looking for
better handwriting recognition for everyday words, and especially for certain
unusual character sequences such as 10 GbE, VLAN, and eSTI-M.

I have Excel 2002.

Thank you,
Tom Doster

I meant to place my original in another Newsgroup, but I had the wrong one
selected at the time I hit the post button. Sorry. We'll let this one stay
here a while given I'm asking about Office stuff.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

There was a Dec 2004 update for improved Ink recognition
in Office 2003, but it's targeted for the Windows Tablet PC
edition.

I haven't seen anything targeted for that area for Office XP
(Excel 2002).

I've tried a few of the free downloadable Tablet PC tools from MS (such as
calculatorfortabletpcsetup.exe) but they won't run on XP Pro. Is there
anything that will let me run these? (just asking :)

Thanks,
Tom

Could I run the Tablet PC of Windows on my non-Tablet IBM ThinkPad T30 and
use my Wacom Interest graphics tablet (USB port) as input?

How different is the Tablet PC version of Windows from XP Pro? If I were to
install it on my ThinkPad or if I purchased a Tablet PC with it on it, would
the site support staff here at work have any headaches supporting my machine
when all other machines run non-Tablet versions of Windows?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

You may want to check with the folks in the Tablet PC
newsgroups (link below). It is possible to use the tablet PC edition
on a PC, but I'm not sure what features you'd have
available that rely on hardware in the Tablets.
