There is pen recognition software, but from the discussions here, you'd be
best off getting a tablet on eBay for the money you'd spend.

If a person does that, they need to be extremely cautious. A lot of the
Tablet PCs are being sold without the original restoration media and the
product ID sticker scratched out or removed from the bottom of the units.
Without that, the OEM for the Tablet doesn't have any obligation to furnish
the new buyer any software and you're totally up the creek since it is not
available off-the-shelf.

True, you usually have to deal with a well-reputed reseller/refurbisher which
is easy to do by seeing if they have a lot of positive notes on their
account. I got my $2600 Gateway for about $1100 almost 2 years ago. The
unit was still under warranty also which has now expired. I haven't had any
serious problems with the machine, only a few Microsoft problems before the
updates were current.

Don't worry, I also have my original restoration disks, if they ever became
necessary.

Good. It is either very trusting purchasers or unscrupulous sellers that I
see in complaints of anger when they're told the OEM or Microsoft cannot
furnish the original media when they've bought from a third-party.
Unfortunately, we do have those people who steal things and then sell them.
8-( The media belongs to the machine, not the previous owner (if the
sellers really were).

I still think a "deal too good to be true" probably is just that.
