Hangs on opening

When I try to open Excel2000 the initial 'logo screen'
comes up but then nothing else happens. I have tried
deleting and re-installing it but that made no
difference. I have installed the Office 2k uodates 1a & 3
but that did not alter things either. All the other
office 2000 applications work fine.
The machine is running Windows 98SE on a 1GHz Athlon with
40GB hard disk drive & 128MB RAM.
All constructive suggestions most welcome.

Hmmm,
it is hard to pinpoint a solution when all the details may
be missing.

Try this:
Close all applications. The shortcut to excel should point
directly to the excel.exe, not a new excel worksheet.
Right click the icon and look at properties > shortcut.
