Hard drive runs continuously when Outlook is running.

How do I stop Outlook from constantly running and slowing down my PC
tremendously? The hard drive never stops, and it takes forever for anything
to happen. When I do a search in Contacts, it may take 5 minutes to have the
name pop up. Help!!!

Without any details there could be many reasons for this. A heavily
fragmented hard disk, truncation taking place, a search indexer accessing
Outlook, etc...

Do you have any file indexing utilities installed and running?

Google Desktop
Microsoft Search
Copernic
just to name a few possibilities

If so, either uninstall them or configure them to NOT scan your e-mails
(the .pst file).

Yet tried disabling the e-mail scanning feature in your anti-virus
program? That isn't sufficient and instead you have to uninstall and
then do a custom install where you do NOT include their e-mail scanner.
AVG is like that. I think CA was, too.

Are you running Outlook in cached Exchange mode? That could be
constantly synchronizing Exchange data with your OST file.

Constantly? Neih, only the changes after the initial synchronization has
completed. You must be having a very high level of mutations per minute for
it to be constantly syncing ;-)
