Hard Reboot

While typing in Microsoft Word 2003 I get spontaneous reboots. I am on a
Windows XP Home machine with SP2. And Microsoft Office 2003 Professional
Edition and SP1.

The computer is an Athlon 3500 64 bit processor with an Asus motherboard and
512 MB or RAM. The video card is an ATI 9800 Pro. The computer seems to be
really solid in all applications other than microsoft word.

The problem the user had on this site:

Seems to be similiar to the problems I am having. Any suggestions are
greatly appreciated.

How long as this being going on for? Could it be coincident with the Windows
XP SP2 being installed? If so, check out the MSKB where there are a host of
issues caused by XP SP2.

I can't say. I built the computer before Christmas with SP2 installed before
office 2003 was installed. Do you know of a good search string in the MSKB
to help narrow down the search?

WD2003 Reboot should find something. Filter the search to SP2.

Do these reboots occur immediately you start typing after opening Word or at
any random time?

Terry,

In another message you gave the response of it being an autocorrection
issue. I turned off the autocorrection and the problems seems to have
disappeared. But for the sake of everyone else. I would say it happens at
random times. I found that if I open up a document either big or small and
just type "jk jk jk jk " for about three to four lines I can get word to
crash.

At times the screen just turns black and the system reboots. Other times
the screen turns to jibbrish and then reboots a few seconds later. Either /
or it seems like some memory corruption is happening. It most likely affects
the video ram before it impacts more system important locations. Pure
speculation on my part.

The fix of turning off the autocorretion seems to have fixed it. I guess
word 2003 doesn't like to spell check jibbrish. Is there a fix for this
problem or should I just use the F7 spell check option from now on?

Thanks a million,

Tim
