hard returns in a text file

When I open a text file with Word XP, I see hard returns at the end of
every line. Is there any way I can remove them by the find and replace
function? Removing one at a time takes too much time.

In the 'find' dialog, click on the 'More' button, then the 'Special'
button to get access to line breaks etc. You can then have them
replaced with nothing (which deletes them), or with a space.

Thank you for your help, but I still have the same problem. I chose
'Manual Line Break' from the list and it does not appears to the same
thing. That is the only line break option available.

I'm not quite sure what's going on but have you tried removing the
"paragraph mark". That's what I often get when pasting non-Word stuff
into word. A way to remove these seems to be what has been suggested
but let's try an alternative method.

Use Replace and replace all ^p with a single space.

You can find out more from Help on "Find/replace", at least in Word
2002, since there are other useful control code symbols available for
find/replace. For example, ^t is the symbol for a tab character.
