Hard Returns in Cells

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I used to be able to create a hard return in a call by using <alt/option> <enter>. This is no longer working. Any thoughts on why?

Command+Option+return or
Control+Option+return
