harddrive space

Even with a 60 gig hard drive I often run out of space because of the large
number of media files I deal with... Office One Note shows as 4.4 gigs on my
programs list... I can't possibly see how it would need so much space
considering its functions, so I assume that it is reserving space on my
harddrive for notes and such. I don't use the program at all, but I don't
want to uninstall it because I'd have to do a complete system restore to get
it back if I do decide to use it in the future ... is there a way to reduce
the amount of space it reserves for notes?

I wouldn't rely upon that programs list for an accurate measure of disk
space. Check in Windows Explorer and see how much space OneNote is really
using.

You do not need to do a system restore to reinstall OneNote. You just need
to installation CD and product key plus install the updates. BTW, system
restore only restores Windows systems files not application files. Also,
OneNote does not reserve hard space for notes and such.

While I do not consider the listing accurate, my Add/Remove Programs list
only about 80Mb to OneNote 2003

True, but some OEMs who bundle OneNote with their machines don't provide a
separate install CD -- just the system restore CDs which reload the entire
OS and application environment. Averatec is one vendor who does that (or at
least used to).

I wonder if it's possible to download the eval version from the
Microsoft site, then use the key that Averatec provides to activate the
product for permanent use? That would get around the problem.

This is what I'm wondering... my one note is in the OEM so I would
have to reinstall my whole operating system... it would be great if I could
just uninstall it and reinstall with the eval and use my product key....

I also posted this in the XP/tablet newsgroup and its been suggested
hat the add/restore is misreporting the amount of space used, but I did
uninstall onenote about 6 months ago and got the 4gigs extra free space, so
wether or not its using 4gigs, my computer thinks it is and won't let other
programs use it

That's an interesting idea. I'm a little skeptical that it would work, but
I can't say for sure that it wouldn't. If you try it...let us know how it
went.

Toshiba does as well. At least with my laptop.
