Hardware Maintenance

I am attempting to access the System Properties from the control panel. I
select the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager tab to check the
properties of the devices installed. When doing this the following error
message appears:
"Unable to load the Device manager program file, devmgr.dll. "
How do I correct this?

Try searching on the phrase "Unable to load the Device manager program
file, devmgr.dll." in Google Groups:

http://www.googlegroups.com

or, on MSDN:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com

You'll find numerous articles with suggestions for solving your Device
Manager issue.

A brute force approach would be a repair install of your OS.

Hello pvdg42,
I followed your advice and visited the Google web site. I found several
articles
dealing with the device manager problems. However none of them works for me.
Following one set of instructions I went to the administrative tools,
selected system, then the plug and play item. I attempted to turn it off and
back on again so that the devmgr could repopulate. ( I should note that the
devmgr.dll file is currently it is empty.) However the start, stop, and
other options are not selectable so I could not turn it off. It appears that
after all these failed attempts at restoring my devmgr.dll I may need to use
that brute force approach you mentioned. How do I do that?

I should note that this computer is used in my small home business so I have
too much software on it to start reloading everything.

Your help is truly appreciated.

Regards,
AWO

Put the OS CD in your drive and follow the prompts. You should be offered a
repair install option.
