Has anyone ever had their Microsoft Office just lock up on them?

My microsoft office has locked up. I'm unable to access protect documents in
order to unprotect it. The security settings all state allow and appear to be
OK. Has anyone ever seen this happen? Any suggestions?

Is this Office 2007? It sounds like it is in reduced operation mode. Has it
been activated? Is it a trial version that has time expired?
