Has anyone started ppview32.exe fr CD drive running WIN98 1St edit

N

Nate

I have tried several systems-ppview32.exe does NOT start from CD running
WIN98 first edition. The issue is soly the CD aspect, it works fine when
started from the hard drives on all computers I tried. If you have, please
share with me any details.

This is actually a continuation of a previous thread. Nate doesn't have a
problem with creating the CD. His problem is that he is unable to run the
Viewer from the CD on a system running Windows 98. I don't have a system to
test this on, but he's tried multiple systems. The system requirements for the
PowerPoint 97 Viewer say that it runs in Win 98. Do you still have a Win 98
system? I'm hoping that someone still has one and can help him.

M

Michael Koerner

Yes, I still have a win98SE system, and the 97 viewer definitely runs on it.

Nate;

After Sonia straightened me out, I re read you message. I run under that
configuration, and the ppview32.exe works just fine on my machine, from CD,
and/or the HD.

With your non working CD in the CD drive, could you go to the command prompt and
type in the following:

dir D:\*.* /S/B/On/Og >C:\windows\temp\list.txt

Change D:\ to whatever is your CD drive. Send me the list.txt file that is
created. I would just like to look at the file structure just in case, there is
something amuck there,

Please give me your eMail address again. I have the text file and a screen
capture of the files. Everything works except ppview32.exe. Even the
decompression program works from the CD-just not ppview32.exe!

I solved it late last night!! It's all about how the CD is created. Using
CDFS or ISO enabled on Roxio makes all the difference. PPT97 opens fine from
the CD under 98. When they are not the choices (CDFS, ISO) , everything looks
fine, and works fine-except PPT97 viewer trying to open under 98 first
edition from the CD drive!! It seems to be the only *.exe program that needs
the extra cross platform compatability to function properly. Viewing the CD
under properties you CANNOT see any difference-"UDFRDR" with or without ISO
looks the same, except to PPT97. Isn't that just how life always works-were
challanged, thanks for the help.
