Has anyone successfully updated a Dynamic Web Template?

I have tried using a disk based web, a Share Point web, and recalculating the
hyperlinks, but I still can't get a DWT to update any attached pages.
FrontPage indicates it is updating the pages, but no changes are made to the
pages attached to the DWT. And the update pages commands are greyed out on
the Format/DWT menu.

I have read the KB articles and tired the workarounds, but nothing has worked.

Has anyone had success with DWTs?

Thanks -- Kristin

You must be working in a open Disk-Based web on your local Windows XP PC.

This is a known issue and hopefully a fix is in the works.
DWTs only update properly on a disk based web, or in a web hosted on Windows 2003 server
with the latest FrontPage extensions hot fix.

I have come up with a partial fix which I can't distribute due to copyright issues, and
another MVP ( Stefan Rusynko )
has developed a macro addin for FrontPage as a work around.
However, it is still being tested and he is not ready to make it public at this time.

About all you can do for now is make your changes / updates on a disk based web and then
publish changes.

I published the site to my local Windows XP PC and opened it in FP2003. I
made a change to the DWT, saved, updated attached pages, and the changes did
not appear in the attached pages. Am I doing soemthing wrong?

Recalculate hyperlinks and then try an update.

I opened my disk-based web, recalculated hyperlinks, ediitted and saved my
DWT which indicated it would update the 2 attached pages, opened the attached
pages and they had not been updated.

The same thing occurs using a SharePoint site.

What section of the DWT are you updating, Editable or Non-Editable regions?

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP Cleaner.
Run the functions that clear the FrontPage Temporary files and the Cache(.web) files.
Then open FrontPage, open your web open a dwt and make a change and save it.

That didn't work either, but thank you for your time and help. I give up
until Microsoft can make DWT's work as advertised in FP 2003.

If you don't mind, check back here in a day or two.
DWTs work fine for me in disk based webs and I'd like to figure this out.

Meanwhile just as a test, if you don't mind, create a new dwt in your disk based web, apply
it to a few pages
and see if it works.

I created a new DWT and it finally worked. I don't know what the issue with
the original DWT was. When I would save it, it would indicate it was
updating the attached pages but nothing happened. I'm still skeptical, but I
will play with it a little more before deciding whether or not to deploy
sites based on DWT's. Thanks again for all your help Steve. I really
appreciate it!
