Have Address Book show Contacts by Company Name instead of first

In Outlook 2000, we were able to display, in the Address Book, the company
name of the contacts in a public contact list. We have been unable to find
this functionality in Outlook 2003. Has it been taken away, or am I just
looking in the wrong place?

Yes, we can change the view when we are in the Contact folder, but we most
often go to the Address Book to find these names and send e-mails, especially
to multiple recipients of the same company. It is a pain to have to remember
spellings of last names, etc., (especially since we are an international
company) and search for them. It is like the Address Book lost fields it
used to be able to display.

Are you referring to the Outlook Address Book, because nothing has changed
there.
Are you displaying Contacts Folders in the Outlook Address Book?
If so, your only options for sorting are:
First, Last
File As
So to see the Company Name in the Outlook Address Book your File As fields
would have to contain the Company Name.

Our current settings are: Tools, Options, Contact Options, and the option:
Default "File As" order is set to Company (Last, First). We make that the
default when setting up new users. Is there someplace else you are referring

After posting my second message, I did find that information. So I went in
and made sure this was set to "File As". It wasn't. but even after setting
it to "File As", it still isn't showing up any differently, ie,
firstname,lastname. Do I need to exit Outlook to get it to take effect?

You need to set your sort order for the Outlook Address Book:

books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there

So to summarize to others who have this question, it is a 3-step process to
make this work.
1. Make sure your Tools, Options, Preferences, Contacts option is set to the
"File As" sort you want,
2. Make sure your Outlook address Book under Tools, Mail Setup, E-mail
Accounts, View or change existing directories or Address books, Outlook
Address Book, Change, choose "File As",
3. Exit Outlook and restart Outlook.

Yes. And restart it too.
