Have trouble importing correct field data

I have an excell file that I download from a web page using Win Zip. I then import it into Access. I have several date fields in Excell that come across as text fields in Access and I loss the information in these fields. The web page has the fields as date fields also. How can I keep the dates when imported into Access?
