Having to reload Office 2003.....

I've had this problem with a client for a little while now. About every two
to three times he opens up his Outlook 2003, it just hangs up. I've ran the
scanpst.exe file, fixed a few errors, rebooted the Windows XP Pro laptop,
and all is well until he opens up Outlook the second or third time (either
daily or within a few days). The only other alternative I've had some luck
with is to perform a reinstall of Outlook. This again only works for a few
times before he locks up again. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall
Outlook, but the same thing happens all over again. It seems to not
completely uninstall Outlook because some of his settings never disappear
(unless they are stored within his *.pst file on his laptop). By the way,
he's not on a server.

Does Microsoft have some type of uninstaller that will completely remove
Outlook for a fresh reload?

Close Outlook - find and rename the outcmd.dat to .old (if using Windows
search, turn on hidden/system files). Reopen Outlook and all should be
well.

Hi Milly,

I ran the search (making sure that the folder options show all
system/hidden files), but found not such file on his laptop. Does this clue
you in on what could be the problem? Appreciate your help with this!

Outlook cannot operate without this file so I doubt that your search was
thorough - the file controls the view of toolbars and must exist for Outlook
to open - which you said it does.

Have you tried a new mail profile?

Hi Milly,

I performed the search on 3 different systems, and still no outcmd.dat
file. The only files I did find on all 3 systems are OUTFORM.dat found in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033 and OUTLFLTR.dat found in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11. Could it be either one of these?
Of the 3 systems I spoke of, the last one I just finished building with XP
Pro and Office 2003, and only those two files end with the *.dat extension.
Please advise, and thank you for your help.

Regards,
John
