Having TOC update for page

D

Doug Boufford

Running Office 97 on WIN 98SE

I have a page at beginning with a TOC, which I know how to update.
Each line in the TOC looks for the style "HEADING1"

I have a page (#25)where I do NOT want to show any text, whether in "HEADING 1" or
other style.

I inserted the Title that I wanted to show up in the TOC, on page 25 & because I
don't want it to show on this page, I used "hidden text". When I redid the TOC.
nothing showed up for page 25.

I thought that this would be the "simple" way of accomplishing what I wanted.........:)

Any hints would be welcomed!

TIA

Instead of using hidden text, insert a TC field and check the box (if any)
in the TOC Options dialog that tells Word to use Table Entry Fields as well
as styles.

Suzanne
THANKS very much. That worked perfectly. I didn't know about TC fields - now I do,
thanks to you.

I almost never use them, but they're very handy when you want a TOC entry
for which you don't have a corresponding heading (or if you want the entry
to differ from the actual heading).
