Headache!!!

I hope it is simple and i bet it is. Word opens very very very slowly
and runs very slow on my Mac. all the other programs in office run
fine. Word will also run fine under another profile on the same
computer. i would assue the problem is some type of system setting on
my profile. Anyone have any ideas?

Try the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or damaged
Preferences file--those are both user specific.

One more thing to try that isn't listed there--hold down shift as you login
in your user account, which will prevent any startup programs from loading.
It's conceivable one is interfering.
