header and footer toolbar

I cannot find the header and footer toolbar under the View menu as mentioned under Help. Is it available somewhere else? I am using Word 2004 for Mac.

There are three reasons why the Header and Footer item may be missing from
the View menu:

1) The document is in Notebook Layout View. Choose a different View.

2) You may have enabled Word 5.1 Menus. See here:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Word2001Menus.html

3) You have deleted it. See the Help topic " Reset original settings for
buttons, menus, commands, and toolbars" for a description of how to get it
back.

One other thing:

The header/Footer Toolbar is *not* a selectable toolbar. It automatically
appears when you go into the header/footer & goes away when you return to
the main document... I believe you may be misinterpreting the instruction to
"Select Header/Footer from the View Menu" which means the _command_ in the
main View menu, not View> Toolbars> Header and Footer.

If the View> Header and Footer *command* is missing follow John's
suggestions top to bottom.
