Header footer always same as previous

The header and footer feature is giving me problems. It
will not let me choose wheter or not to have the "same as
previous" button choosen. It just automatically does so
and does not allow change. I am trying to get the first
page not to have a header but the second and so on pages
to have one, but of course the button is not lit as if it
is not an option... How do I get around this or how can I
fix it....?

The 'same as previous' button determines whether or not a header or footer
in this section should use the same header or footer in a previous section.
It is therefore disabled in the first or only section of a document.

You don't need sections or same as previous to do what you want to do. Just
make sure you have 'different first page' checked in the page set up
details, and that your document has at least two pages. You will then find
that header and footer view will show you a different header for the first
page (which you can leave blank) and for subsequent pages. Set the header
you want for those pages, and this will be repeated on all pages from 2
onwards. (Note, if you also check 'different odd and even, you will have
three headers. In this case, you will need to set up both the odd and even
headers, leaving the first page header blank.)

Hope this helps
