Header/Footer graphic not printing, but shows in document

Hello,

I am having a bit of a snafu and am hopeful that someone here can give
me a hand. I have a Word DOT template that was originally created in
MS Word 2003 for Windows and needs to be utilized on both Mac and
Windows systems. The template includes a number of text boxes and
graphics in the header/footer section and everything is visible when
editing on both Windows and Mac systems. The problem is there is one
image at the bottom of the page that does not print on Macs, though it
shows when opened in Word. There is logo graphic at the top of the
template which prints just fine in addition to a couple text boxes, it
is only the one image at the bottom of the page that does not print.

This is not a margin issue as the image does not print even if it is
moved to the middle of the page. I have tried inserting the image in a
text box, changing sizing and numerous other things with no luck. The
real puzzling this is that multiple Windows versions of Word have
printed the the entire template including the graphic that the Mac
version seems to ignore. The image that does not print and the one
that does both started as AI files that were reduced and saved as GIF
files in Photoshop with the same settings.

I am not sure what else to try and am very open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Chris

Hi Chris:

There was a fix in Mac Word 2004 SP2 that was supposed to fix most of these
issues. Is that what you're using?

If it is, all I can suggest is to use Word 2004 to delete the image from the
template. Save and close the template, re-open it in Mac Word and re-insert
the image.

This is a "layering" issue. Mac Word stuffs up the "layers" in the
document. Re-inserting the graphic puts everything on a "different" layer,
and it should work. If you can get it to work in Mac Word, chances are PC
Word will cope.

Since the original is in AI, save it as a Windows Metafile from AI and use
that: it will print better (Mac Word will convert it to a PICT internally).

Sorry about that: Microsoft did NOT get this one right in Mac Word, and
we're all waiting... SP 2 fixes *most* but not all of the ways this can go
wrong. :)

Cheers

Thanks for the hint John. I am working with the Mac users to determine
what patch level they are at, but suspect this is the issue.

Thanks again,

Chris
