Header/Footer Problems

Why does the size of my header/footer block keep changing without my action,
Is there any way of stopping it. Also when ever I have changed a font eg,
bold the whole document is bold faced. I apply a number to a sentence and the
whole document gets numbered. Request assistance with this problem.
