Header & Footer

Is there a way to add a create / modify date to the Header & footer of a
Visio drawing. I know you can do the current date. What I basically want to
do is have the Last time the drawing was modified print on the drawing page
in the lower right hand footer.

Wherever you want to place the date, use menu Insert -> Field
select category Date/Time and field Last Edit Date/Time and the format
to suit.

There is one additional option that is not available via Insert/Field that
Paul recommends. Last Edit Date works in some cases but it changes every time
the user does anything in the drawing. Last year, we wanted to record the
last time a file was saved rather than edited so that the date/time didn't
change until the file was next saved.

If you would prefer "Last Save" instead of "Last Edit", do as Paul suggests,
then open the shapesheet and change the value in the text field from
=DOCLASTEDIT() to =DOCLASTSAVE().

For some reason, "Last Save" is not available via the Insert/Field menu.
Anyone know whay?

I should add my usual rant. If you are using a Visio page that is the same
size as the physical page then Background pages are the way to go.

Headers and Footers were added to Visio to handle a special case. The normal
way of handling Header and Footer type information in Visio is to use a
background. Around Visio 3, a request was made to add a means of printing
page identification on individual pages when the Visio page printed across
several physical pages. Header and Footers were added to address this
problem with limited capabilities.
