Header problem

Every time I open a new document in Word, the header is 5
inches or so long. I have tried moving the margins and
have followed the instructions on the help about moving
the margin on the left ruler. It hasn't worked.

Have you checked the header margins in your Page Setup?

You may want to go FILE, to PAGE SETUP, to MARGINS, and
see what the settings are for your Header and Footer.

On the Layout tab of Page Setup, change the vertical alignment from Center
to Top.
