Header Problems

Hi

I have two problems with the header in a document they may or may not be
related.

The first problem is that the head in the second section of my document
keeps losing the first character and gaining an extra line.

The header is one line and one word centred. And while I am editing away in
other parts of the text this header seems to repeatedly change to one blank
line followed by a second line with the word that I have entered but missing
its first character.

I have headers set to different left and right pages. I do not need that
for this section but I do for the first section in the document. There are
only two sections to the document.

The second problem is that I cannot change the second section to have only
one header. When I uncheck different left and right pages and even though
it clearly says apply to this section both the first and second sections
change to having only one header. I lose either my left or right header for
the entire document - I didn't check which one it is. I assume that the
first section gets the header from the first page.
