Headers and Footers - Page numbering... stumped

M

M.R.S.

Hi all,

I've always had a frustrating time TRYING to number my pages. (Word 2000)

I'm writing a document that has a title page, a table of contents and then
the rest...

I want the title page to have no page number

I want the table of contents to have an ( ii )

Then I want the rest of the pages to be numbered sequentially. What is the
correct method to accomplish this?? I've tried so many times, but just seem
to get more frustrated. None of my books seem to help me out.

Thanks!!!

Make the title page, contents and document body separate sections
(Insert > Break > Section Break / Next Page)

Use View Header/Footer to set up your headers and footers, including
page numbers where required. (Don't worry about the format yet)

Enable different footers (and headers) if required with the "Same as
Previous" button on the Header and Footer toolbar.

Adjust the footer content as required (clear the footer on the title page)

Use Insert > Page Numbers / Format button to set the page number format
for the section. Click the OK button on the Page Number Format dialog
but be sure to click the Close button (not OK) on the Page Numbers
dialog or you will get another page number.
