Headers and Footers

A friend of mine is having some problems with Headers and Footers in a
document he has created. He initially created the document and placed
headers and footers on each page. He has turned on the Track Changes
options and has made some changes to the document.

When he opens the document in Original view and Original Showing Markup
view, he can see his Headers and Footers. When he opens the document
in Final or Final Showing Markup, he is unable to see his headers and
footers, and when he clicks View - Headers and Footers, the dotted area
at the top and bottom of the screen don't appear.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens, and if so, what can he do
to fix the problem.

To place headers and footers "On each page" this means he has a section
break "on each page", right?

If during his editing he has deleted one or more of the section breaks, that
might account for it.

I just tried a few things here to reproduce the condition and I was not able
to get my document to show the problem. However, if you futz around enough
with a document, you can corrupt one or more of the section breaks, and if
you do that some very weird things can happen.

If you create a new document and copy all except the very last paragraph
mark into it, then save under a new name, what happens then? This will
de-corrupt the master section break, hidden below the last paragraph mark,
which may be where the problem is.

Thanks for the input. I sent your suggestion to my friend. Basically
I told him that the problem is not with the Headers and Footers
function of Word, it is probably a problem within the document itself.
