Headers & Footers for a Book with Chapters

N

I am using Microsoft Word 97.

I am formatting a book created in MS Word and having a
problem with my Headers.

These are the requirements:

1. 1st Page of Chapters has NO header.
2. Even pages have the Book's Title in the header.
3. Odd Pages have the Chapter's Title in the header.

I have used "Section Breaks" at the end of each Chapter.
All formating works fine except for 1 thing!

The problem:

Whenever I create a Chapter Title, this title appears on
every chapter (on the Odd Pages in the Header) throughout
the book. When I enter the title for Chapter 2, for
example, Chapter 2 will appear on every Odd Page in the
Header including the Odd Pages in Chapter 1, and all other
Chapters.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? Time is of
the essence!

Thank You.

Sounds like "same as previous" is turned on in the odd-page headers.
Starting with the second section, put your cursor on an odd page (not
the first page though), and click on View -> Header and Footer.
Deselect the "same as previous" option on the Header and Footer toolbar
(it's the fifth button from the right on my toolbar, but yours may be
different). Do the same thing for all subsequent sections. Then go
back and insert/modify your odd-page headings in each section.
