Headers in the T.O.C

I have created a document and applied styles to the various headers I would
like in my TOC. Header 1 line is in my headers, this is not picking up in my
TOC. Is there a way to get headers included in a TOC?

You must restate your question being more careful to distinguish between
"header" and "heading."

I think I understand your question, but it is somewhat confusing.

To answer what I think you're asking, there is no way to include header or
footer text in a TOC, no matter how it is styled. These things don't really
appear on any specific page the way a heading might.

Thanks Bear I will have to find another way around picking up the text in the
header to include in the TOC, and yes after I reread what I had typed it was
kind of confusing sorry about that.

It's rather unusual to rely on the header to contain headings (or other
material that defines the content of the body text). Things in the headers
are there for rapid or random access and usually reflect what's in the body.

What I'm getting at is, why don't you put headings in the body and
automatically pick them up in your headers using STYLEREF fields. Then your
TOC would pick up body headings the way it should, and your headers could
reflect body headings automatically.

I'm building a product catalogue, in the header of the section identifies
the catagorie (heading 1), in the body of the text at the items in the
catagory (heading 2) (heading 3)

Header = Safety Equipment
Body Text =
First Aid Kit, Eye Wash station, Life Rings, Reach Poles etc etc. (I work
for a pool company)

I am in the process now of pulling my catagories out of the headers and
putting them in the body of the doc.

This will all get moved over to access and a better way found of managing
the data/document but for now this word version is what we have.

It's perfectly clear. BUT I stand by my guns. Your headers can all be
identical, with just this field in them: { STYLEREF Heading1 \* MERGEFORMAT }.

This field will show the value of the latest Heading1 in the body. You just
stick ONE Heading1 at the beginning of each category. That Heading1 gets into
your TOC and shows the page where the category starts. The header shows the
correct category on each page.
