Headers & Page Numbering

J

John Williams

I have a research paper I am working on and my professor does not want the
page numbering to start until the physical third page. Here is how she wants
it:

Page 1 = Cover sheet
Page 2 = Abstract
Page 3 = Body of the paper starts

Now, to my problem. When I am using the headers in MS Word 2003, if I have
it do the numbering, then it ALWAYS puts a number on page 1 and 2. So, the
actual third page has a 3 at the top and I need it to have a 1.

Does anyone know how to delete the header from pages 1 & 2 and make it start
on page 3?

Thanks!

Insert a Next Page Section Break between Pages 2 and 3 (You may need to
remove a hard page break of change the formatting of the first paragraph on
Page 3 so that you do not get an unwanted blank page after Page 2). Then go
to the Header pane of Section 2 (Page 3) in your document and Unlink that
header from that in the previous Section. While there, use the Format Page
Number facility to set the numbering to Start from 1 in that Section and
then move to the Previous Header in the document and delete the page number
field from it,
