Headers & Paragraphs

I have written large documents each containing many headers with a paragraph
immediately below relating to the header. When I save them they are
attached. When I open them to re-edit they have separated. Can anyone tell
me why and how to stop it.

I use Word 2002 + Win XP Home edition.
