Headers will not adjust

I am using Word 2004 on a Mac OS 10.3.9 & the problem I'm having is
that I'm attempting to edit a doc for my boss where the headers have
gotten thrown off. It may have occured when he emailed it to his
editor who then worked on it & saved it on her computer. Then she
emailed it back & the headers are all wrong. I believe she works on a
PC. It's weird too because some pages are normal & fine, but others
the headers are 4" long. When I try to adjust them to 1", it appears
to do it in the dialogue box, but it does not change on the document.
I've been searching high & low for a solution to this with templates &
global templates & normal & all over. When I open a new document it
opens with normal headers. But when I copy & paste this doc into the
new one, the headers again freeze in the bad place.

Can anyone help me with this? I very much appreciate your assistance.

Many thanks,
Essrea

I've been having the very same problem. I can't figure a way to get
the headers back to the original size (the document was created in an
earlier version of Word). It has totally messed up the pagination of a
300 page document.

Using Word 11.1 on a G4 Powerbook system 10.3.9.

Check Format | Document, Layout tab, and make sure Vertical Alignment is set
to Top, not anything else. And that Apply To: is Whole Document.

If that doesn't work, click ¶ on the standard toolbar to turn on nonprinting
characters and View |Header/Footer to see if there are any empty paragraphs
(gray ¶s) in there and where the section breaks are.

Daiya,

Thank you for your help - it was the vertical alignment. I love when
the solution is as simple as that!
