2007: my spreadsheet has headers, but when i want to sort the data, excel
does not detect them, even after checkmarking the option.

If the headers are not in row 1 (only) then Excel may be thinking the
range to be sorted extends above the headers. If you first select the
full range that you want sorted it should behave as you expect.
