I am trying to create a template using numbered headings to use the
following format:
1.0 Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3
I followed Shauna Kelly's instructions
(http://shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html) for setting up
the numbering, and from what I can tell, I have it set up right. However, I
am having a problem with getting everything to indent properly. In the
Customize Outline Numbered List dialog, I have the following settings:
Level 1
Number position - Left, Align at 0"
Text position - tab space after 0.3", Indent at 3.15"
Level 2
Number position - Left, Align at 0.5"
Text position - tab space after 0.4", Indent at 3.65"
Level 3
Number position - Left, Align at 1"
Text position - tab space after 0.5", Indent at 4.75"
According to Ms. Kelly's instructions, "...You can't control the indents by
modifying the Paragraph format of the style. If you do, Word will simply
override you." However, when the styles are assigned to the heading text,
the information I set in the Customize Oultine Numbered List dialog, doesn't
seem to take effect; instead whatever is in the Paragraph formatting does.
How do I get the formatting specified in the Customize Oultine Numbered List
dialog to take effect?
A second question is regarding formatting the text under each heading.
Since there can be text at all three levels, and the indentation is
different for all three levels, do I need to create a separate style for
each level and have that be the style for the following paragraph in each
Heading style?
Thanks.
