Headings in Header (Is there an easy way?)

Dear Community,

I would like to include "Heading 1" (number and text) as my main chapter
heading into the header of an academic document. I do know, I can get this
result by including section breaks and after each chapter and cross-reference
it directly.

Is there an easier way to do it? Any command / field code that I could
include just once and Word picks up Heading 1 itself?

Also I noticed previously, if I want to change a heading and I already made
the cross-reference, I do need to go into the header and update the field
manually (even closing the document and open it again has no effect).

Check out the use of StyleRef field, which is a very easy and an
automatically updated way of doing what you want.

To add to what Graham and Dean have said, note that you will need two
StyleRef fields in order to get both the paragraph number and the paragraph
text.
