Found a bug in Word-97. (yes, I know I should updgrade...)
Problem: When working in a book, I am putting headings at the top of each
page, and then I immediately put in a "Table of Contents" record. While
I'm in 'normal' view, everything is fine, but when I turn on Tools >
Options > View tab, Non-printing chars ALL ON, that's when the Page Count
goes wrong. The work of displaying the TOC records, and making the lines
wrap on the display makes Word repaginate the document, and fouls up the
actual Table of contents. I turn Non-printing chars. OFF again, regenerate
the Table of Contents, and I'm fine again.
This behavior probably happens with Index entries as well, but I have not
tried this.
Questions:
- Do Word developers ever browse this Newsgroup?
- Have other people seen this behavior?
- Is there a fix for W-97?
- Does this exist in newer versions of Word?
Any help or suggestions?
