Help a newbie - cannot publish projects!!

M

Moses M

I am setting up a Proj Server 2003 / Proj Pro 2003 lab. Two issues:
(a) How do I get Project Pro 2003 to publish ENTERPRISE projects in Proj
Serv 2K3? I keep getting an error "You are trying to publish an
non-enterpsrise project to a MS proj server".
The Server connection test is sucessful. Currently I am using Project Admin
account, so permissions shouldn't be an issue..
(b) Even when I configure Proj Server to allow non-enterprsie projects, I
cannot view those projects in Project Center!!!
I have gone through MS Project 2003 docs, but must be missing some basic
configuration.
Any inpout will be appreciated!

Moses,

Sounds like you have not yet imported the project file to Project Server.
To do this, you'll need to close the project file (but leave MS Project
open), then select Tools / Enterprise Options / Import Project to
Enterprise.

You can find more information in the Project Help function by seaching for
"import project to project server". I also suggest getting a copy of Gary
Chefetz's book on implementing Project Server (just waiting for the 2003
version to come out.). It's helped answer a lot of questions for me.

When I import a project it appears to work, but the project can not be
accessed from the web. The project shows up in the project list, but I can
not see its tasks. I noticed that the Application log in the Event Viewer is
recording errors when I import the project, but I do not know how to
interpret them. They look like this....

At the very least, after importing the project you must publish the
assignments using Collababorate - Publish - All Information. Hope this
helps.

Thank you for your reply.

That does not work either. When I try, I get an error reported in the
Project Server spooler.
It says that the message type is "Publish New and Changed Assignments" with
an error of
"SYSTEM ERROR (0X80004005).
When I look through the application event log after publishing all
information, there are about 20 new errors.

I'm guessing that it's because of the earlier errors reported in the event
viewer during the import step.

Does that help?

Thank you,

I had searched the newsgroup prior to my original entry. I was reluctant to
call MS support for the hot fix described in kb838882.
I broke down and did so. I installed the hot fix and the application event
log errors changed, but the end result stayed the same.

Then MS support suggested that my SQL data base may not have been
successfully updated after installing Project Server 2003 SP1. Running the
upgdb111.cmd utility made all the difference.

(for anyone reading this in the future the upgdb111.cmd requirements and
command line options are described in the installation directions for Project
Server 2003 SP1 currently at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...62-d534-4f17-ab08-7c9b790c5b15&DisplayLang=en )

I'm not sure how we messed it up, but it appears to be recoverable.
Thank you for your help Dale.

Moses,

Sounds like you have not yet imported the project file to Project

Enterprise.

You can find more information in the Project Help function by seaching

Gary
Chefetz's book on implementing Project Server (just waiting for the
2003
version to come out.). It's helped answer a lot of questions for me.

Dan

I am setting up a Proj Server 2003 / Proj Pro 2003 lab. Two issues:
(a) How do I get Project Pro 2003 to publish ENTERPRISE projects in
Proj
Serv 2K3? I keep getting an error "You are trying to publish an
non-enterpsrise project to a MS proj server".
The Server connection test is sucessful. Currently I am using
Project
Admin
account, so permissions shouldn't be an issue..
(b) Even when I configure Proj Server to allow non-enterprsie
projects,
I
cannot view those projects in Project Center!!!
I have gone through MS Project 2003 docs, but must be missing some
basic
configuration.
Any inpout will be appreciated!

You are welcome, my friend! If you are in Minneapolis (Minnesota), my
brother lives in Savage.

I had searched the newsgroup prior to my original entry. I was reluctant
to
call MS support for the hot fix described in kb838882.
I broke down and did so. I installed the hot fix and the application
event
log errors changed, but the end result stayed the same.

Then MS support suggested that my SQL data base may not have been
successfully updated after installing Project Server 2003 SP1. Running
the
upgdb111.cmd utility made all the difference.

(for anyone reading this in the future the upgdb111.cmd requirements and
command line options are described in the installation directions for
Project
Server 2003 SP1 currently at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...62-d534-4f17-ab08-7c9b790c5b15&DisplayLang=en )

I'm not sure how we messed it up, but it appears to be recoverable.
Thank you for your help Dale.

Search this newsgroup for the system error you mention. You will find
several threads dealing with this problem and how to fix it. Hope this
helps.

Thank you for your reply.

That does not work either. When I try, I get an error reported in the
Project Server spooler.
It says that the message type is "Publish New and Changed Assignments"
with
an error of
"SYSTEM ERROR (0X80004005).
When I look through the application event log after publishing all
information, there are about 20 new errors.

I'm guessing that it's because of the earlier errors reported in the
event
viewer during the import step.

Does that help?

Thank you,
-Jerry

At the very least, after importing the project you must publish the
assignments using Collababorate - Publish - All Information. Hope
this
helps.

I hope he's keeping warm. This morning it was below zero (F), but it’s
supposed to warm up now. It's kind of frustrating having the winter weather
but no real snow base this year.
