Help aligning two objects (PP 2003)

I have two boxes on a slide. One is filled with a solid color. The other is a
gradient of that color (from transparent to solid). I want the boxes to
overlap slightly but look like a continuous bar, with a short gradient at the
beginning.

I'd prefer to have only one bar, but since I can't control when the gradient
happens, I'm using 2 bars.

The problem is, despite being the exact same height, the boxes won't align
perfectly (either by typing in the "position" or using the "align" command).
There is always a gap and you can see that there are two boxes.

Help! I either need to get them to perfectly align OR control where the
gradient happens. Thank you!

Turn on "Snap to Shape".

(Depending on the version... On the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, click
Grids and Guides, and enable snap objects to other objects.)

Then drag one shape close to the other and they should attach. Check
it out in the show, not in the edit slide view.

The gap is probably due to the line around the boxes - set to white, I
expect. Set their widths to zero and see if that helps the alignment.

Nope, that didn't do it. And neither one have borders. Even after 'snap to
shape' I can see the break, even in slide show view. I suspect is has to do
with one thing having the color gradient.

No, I use two joined boxes for gradient control quite frequently with
great results. Sometimes it needs a little tweaking or it may be
aligning to other objects close to the same vertical/horizontal
position, or in a spot that is uncooperative with your monitor.

By the way, will this be projected or ran from a monitor? You might
want to check the actual deliver appliance for what it looks like.

Tell ya what, send me the slide and I'll take a looksy if you want.

Send it to "robert lerner AT yahoo DOT com" (put that all together).
