Help! - All my One Note files are corrupted??

H

I was having great success with OneNote 2007 until a day ago.

Went into a big meeting, opened up OneNote to view my presentation
notes, and to my surprise, got a message saying that "OneNote Crashed
the last time you viewed this page. The page may be corrupted or have
some other error. Press ENTER to reload the page". I hit ENTER and was
told that there were no pages to recover from. ALL MY NOTES FILES GOT
THIS MESSAGE!
I know for a fact that nothing strange happened when I shut down my
computer the last time.

Another screen appeared giving me various options, one was to "Run
Diagnostics. I did, but the only recommendation coming back from the
MS site was to purchase the Retail copy. I have B2TR, so I don't think
this should be my corrective action. On top of that, why would I now
purchase a product that just corrupted tons of data for me?

I also tried to reinstall, but the only message I got was that it was
already installed. Can't seem to find an option to Repair anywhere.

Does anyone here have suggestions? Please?

Thanks

believe it or not, the best bet is to install the "non-beta" version.
It has a lot of bug fixes. I had that same error with my computer
during beta, but, I have yet to have it since upgrading to RTM...

erik

Really? I thought that B2TR and the release version are the same.
Were you able to recover your files?

Thanks.

B2TR is a beta version while the trial is a release version. There are
major differences between the two, which you can summarize as B2TR being
much buggier than RTM.

I guess my best bet is to download the trial first? If after
installing that my files are gone I won't be purchasing it.

Thanks for your help. Keeping my fingers crossed..

Thanks. There was a message on that site saying that only US residents
were allowed to download the trial, but Canada was a country option,.

I have the RTM trial version installed. I have the same problem. Is there
anyway to recover these files?

OK, I was going to say that a miracle happened and after uninstalling
B2TR (with great difficulty) and installing the Trial version, I can
now read all my files!

Now after reading RudyTome's post I'm a little worried about using
this product any more.

As John Waller said "The final version (in trial form or otherwise) has a
number of fixes in it for stability, performance, search, and syncing of
shared notebooks since
b2tr, "

It has a great great deal of fixes and changes to address these issues and
I've seen no reports of this behavior since RTM. Also, RTM may not be very
different in terms of functionality, but there's usually a lot of backend
cleaned up.

Also, OneNote keeps backup copies of Notebooks so they can easily be
restored. They are stored under
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\OneNote\12.0\Backup

"File -> Open Backup" should help restore files
Settings can be altered under Tools -> Options -> Backup
