HELP!!! Can not access database, when rebuild will quite

i hope this is a common issue.

Entorage ver: 2004
MacOS: leopad

anyone can help me urgently?
when i restart my entourage, show:"can not access database, please
rebuild"
just have a try to rebuild it, but the prcess is very slowly, after
about 10 mins, show: Error:I/O.

sorry, i will update the detail Error informaiton tomorrow.
but this is mailbox is very very important.

my database about 12G, i think it's two big.
base on many suggestion, i will have a try to delete the useless files
to make it big enough for rebuild again.

I/O error almost always means disk damage.

You should immediately backup your data before you loose everything. If you
don't have an external drive, get one immediately. I recommend this Seagate
drive. It was also recommended in Macworld.

Rebuilding a large database like this would require enormous amounts of free
space. I keep 500 GB free to rebuild clients database and I can usually
recover everything, but when you have disk trouble as indicated by the I/O
error your data might be too damaged to recover.
