Help! Can not add new resouce to Enterprise Resource Pool

G

Greg

We are using Project Server 2003 and there is no problem for us to add new
resource to Enterprise Resource Pool in the past over 1 year. But we just
find out recently we can not add any new resource to the Enterprise Resouce
Pool, here is what I find (I am Administrator for both windows server and
project server) :

1. Create a local project with new resource.
2. Conect to server and using "Import resources to Enterprise ..." to import
the new resource without any issue.
3. Logon to PWS and I can see this new resource in Admin -> Manage Users and
groups -> Users
4. But can not find this resource in Resouces -> View enterpise resources in
Resouce Center.
5. When I try to re-import the new resouce using wizard, wizard show
"Duplicate name" error.
6. When I click Tools -> Enterprise Option -> Open Enterprise Resource Pool,
I still can not see this new resource even I select "Include inactive
resources"
7. Run "select * from msp_web_resources" directly in the database and is
able to see the new resource without any issue (can see RES_EUID,
WRES_NT_ACCOUNT, WRES_IS_ENABLED=1,WRES_CAN_LOGIN=1, WRES_COUNT_LICENSE=1)

I very appreciate if your are about to help me to find out a solution! Thanks,

I suspect you are experiencing the same problem we are. Specifically you add
a resource to the Enterprise using Pro, but the data is not synchronized to
PWA Resource Centre. The resources are there OK so project managers can
assign them to project teams. You just cannot report on them from the PWA
Resource Centre. Typically the name will be blank in Resource Centre. If you
update their profiles (i.e. their RBS) in Pro, the changes will not be
reflected in PWA Resource Centre. We are still trying to determine where and
what the problem is.

Greg:

It sounds as though you may have imported the project, rather than the
resource and therefore imported the resource as a local resource. Can you
verify that the user has an account in Project Web Access?

Rick:

In your case, the resources show up in the resource pool, correct? This
would indicate a publishing issue. Didn't we discuss this at some point?

Thanks for your information, Richard!

Actually we are different, in my case, I only can see these resouce directly
in database table (Run "select * from msp_web_resources" directly in the
database), I can NOT see these new resources in Resouce centre, PM can not
assign task to the new resouces because they are not avalible. But when I try
to re-import these new resouces, import wizard give me "Duplicate name" error.

Looks like you have a better situation than us, at least PM can assign the
task and resouce can put their time in the task.

Thanks for shareing the information, hope you can find a solution quickly!

Greg

Yes, after import these new resouces, all of them have a account in Project
Web Server and they are able to access web server, but PM can not assign any
task because they are not in Enterprise Resouce Pool.

Update this one just in case some people has same issue.

Actually this is a permission issue. Please click Admin -> Manage Security
-> select category and click "Modify Category", Please make sure "All current
and future resources in the project server database" has been selected.

Greg - I have the identical problem that you've had. I went through all the
same steps in the beginning. I ended up with the same ultimate problem.

My problem is that I have my security set to those parameters already. I
really don't want to start from scratch here. I would hate to dump
everything I've already established in order to be able to add 3 team members
who I have been unable to add.

Does anyone have any ideas????

I have a very similar problem too and can't find a solution. We added some
resources to the ERP (Enterprise Resource Pool) and they show in the ERP just
fine. We can add them to project teams using Build Team from Enterprise.
But, they do not show up in PWA in the Resource Center. We have 139
resources in the ERP right now(we are in pilot startup mode) and PWA stops
it's display at 130. I have the Administrator role and can't see them. I
even added them to my organization in the RBS to see if it was a problem with
"filtering" on the RBS (Resource Breakdown Structure) but it doesn't appear
to be related to
this.

Any ideas? Could the database be corrupted somehow? If we add another
resource, it won't show up. It's as if something is blocking any resources
above ID 130. All of the resources that are not visible in Resource Center
were added on 3/17 or after. I don't know of anything that happened then to
create this problem.

If I go to the resource assignments views, I can select the missing resources
(134-139) to view!

Try opening these resources and change something. Then save and exit. Go
back and see if this solves the problem. If it does, then change the data
back to what you wanted. This essentially forces a republish of the
resources.

That's as far as I'll go with a Me-Too post. If this doesn't work for you,
try starting your own thread, and make sure that you describe your system
setup and let us know what you see in the Application Event log on the
server.

Gary,

It didn't make a difference.

Actually, I have two posts on this subject prior to posting it here. No
one ever responded to those ("Missing Resources in PWA" or "Resource in the
ERP don't show up in PWA"). When I found this one with discussion already
underway, I joined in. Nevertheless, I would really appreciate your help
and thoughts on this.

MaryB,

How many Category which you belong to? Please make sure all Categories have
same option ""All current and future resources in the project server
database".

G

Greg

Have you check the view defination? I don't think anything wrong in the
database, it must be a setting issue.
1. Click Admin -> Modify View
2. Select "Resources Summary" and click "Modify View"
3. Please make sure there is no Filter under "Filter" and "RBS Filter"
4. Please make sure all Categories have correctly setting (check my post on
3/22) under section "Categories this view belong to"

My problem is not a view problem. We know that the dimension process on the
"Resource List" dimension is failing with a data source error. We don't
have a clue how to fix it.

Walter,

We had similar problem

Problem:

In the "View Resource Assignment" Option, We were able to see the
resource and see the assignment

In the "View enterprise resources in Resource Center" or "Build Team
From Enterprise"
we were not able to see the resources.

This resources were enterprise resource with the windows user
authentication.

Resolution:

Finally the following solution worked for us :
1) "Clean Project Server Database" option, we deleted the projects in
which this resource has assignments, then deleted the resource

2) Then did the Synchronized the Active Directory Group to get the
user back

3) Then published the projects
