Help--Can't create anymore control?

M

MN

Hi,
I using Acc2K Developer, Win2K.
I have a report then when I click to add 1 new textbox to this report I got
an error message: "Microsoft Access can't create anymore controls on this
form or report - If you have deleted control from this form or report in the
past, you may be able to rename the form or report and then add more controls
to it".
Please help. Thanks you.

Hi.
I have a report then when I click to add 1 new textbox to this report I got
an error message

If you check "Specifications" in Access Help, you'll find that up to 754
sections and controls can be added over the lifetime of a form or repport.
You've hit the ceiling. Deleting controls or sections does not reset the
counter.

There are several workarounds but probably the quickest is to rename your
current report, then right-click the name of the report in the Database
Window and select "Save As..." in the pop-up menu. Type the original name of
the report in the Save As dialog window, then select "Report" from the combo
box. Select the "OK" button to save it. The new report should have its
"counter" set to the current number of sections and controls added together,
which will probably allow you to add more.

If you currently have 754 sections and controls on your report, then you'll
need to use a different method.

HTH.

You're very welcome. Glad it helped.

I noticed that you marked my reply, but the Microsoft Online Community Web
site is still buggy, and it's not marked with the green check mark as an
answer to your question. Would you please sign back in and mark that reply
again? If it's not marked as an answer, people researching the same
question you asked will never see this thread in the database of answered
questions to find it quickly.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you've hit the 754 sections and controls ceiling, and it is a
ceiling that you can't move. You'll need to break the report into smaller
pieces, such as subreports (each subreport can have up to 754 sections and
controls) in the Details section or create more than one report to display
the information you need. You may be able to free up some of the count by
deleting unnecessary labels or combining labels into one label, then creating
a copy of the report (using "Save As") to reset the count, but this will
probably only reduce the count by a few. If all you need is just a few more
controls, then this method would be preferable to going to the trouble of
creating a subreport to fit into the report, so it may be an option for you
to consider.

Yes. It's still buggy after more than a year in business. Thanks for
trying again. Try signing into the Microsoft Online Community and then
viewing your Profile page (so it knows which user signed in) by selecting the
"Edit my Profile" button between the Sign In/Out button and the Help
hyperlink. You don't need to change anything, so just close your Profile and
then find your question and select my answer.

In the green section below the message pane, you should see the question,
"Did this post answer the question?" which should (well, keep your fingers
crossed) put a green check mark on the message and mark your question as
answered within a few minutes.

If the question says, "Was this post helpful to you?" then the Web site has
not recognized you as the person who asked the question, and you needn't try
marking it again because it won't be marked as an answer this time, either.

Thanks for your help!
