Help. Can't enter data.

Peter

We have a copy of Office XP running on Windows XP Home on
a stand-alone computer.

When we open office we can open an existing doc or
spreadsheet, and move cursor around... but cannot enter
new characters. If we open a new doc, we cannot enter
data into this. If we open Notepad, we can enter data in
the normal way and create a doc.

We have uninstalled the main Office CD and re-installed
it. The problem persists. We have upgraded to the
latest version of Vet anti-virus and it is not showing any
problems.

Does anyone know what is happening here ?

Thank you
Peter

Sounds like an activation issue. Did you activate Office? Is your
version of Office an evaluation copy? Has it been installed on more
than one PC? Note that Office XP is licensed for one PC only and
possibly the owner's laptop depending on your EULA.

Go to Help/Activate Product to either activate Office or to obtain a
phone number you can call for assistance in activation issues.

The copy of Office we have is Office XP Academic Edition,
purchased by my son (a student) last year. It is
installed on one PC only. At the time we followed the
Log On instructions on the microsoft web site. I presume
these are the activation matters that you talk about.

I trust that this is not an activation issue as we have
purchased this product legally and we expect it to run,
without built-in "Gotcha's" by Microsoft.
