Hi;

What is the error you receive when you attempt to install the update? Have
you done a Restart after installing the other updates? (If not, do so now
and then attempt to install KB917152 again).

Obviously, be sure your download isn't corrupt somehow. It is well worth
your time to get a new download; here's the link for the Full version of
that update:

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your tips.
I was able to install by following the link you gave me for the 'full'
update version.

For your information, here are the answers to the questios you asked.
There was no error code other than the 'failed to install' report, and a
link as so possible action to correct.(which I followed).There was also a
supposed link to a 'full' install, but it is ineffective because MS update
merely reports kb917152 as being already downloaded, and asks if I want to
install it.
I did consider the possibility that my download might be corrupted, but did
not know how to find and delete it so I could start afresh.I still do not
know how to do that, as I guess it is still in my system somewhere, and is
now of course, not needed. Perhaps you know?
You asked if I restarted. Yes, I did, and I also cleaned out all my temp
files etc., but the update still failed to install.

Thanks again!

Hi;

Glad to hear the Full install worked to clear up the problem. Sometimes
that happens with updates and there isn't always a clear reason for why.

The most likely place for the location of the failed update file(s) would be
the SoftwareDistribution folder. By default that folder will "clean" itself
of old downloads when they are 10 days old.

If you wish, you can manually purge the folder. On the Start/Run line
enter "net stop wuauserv" (you will see a short CMD windowed session open
and close). Now delete or rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. You will
lose your AU/WU History, but that really isn't worth much these days.
Restart the computer; visit the v6 MU site
(http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en) to let
the software re-establish itself on your system.
