Help - can't print with Word

Hi - hope someone can help me as I'm out of ideas. Problem is that I can't print with Word 2008.

I have bang up to date MacBook Pro running Leopard and on a wireless network run from a Time Capsule, with an Epson SP R285 printer running off an AirPort Express. Epson print drivers don't work at all so I am using the latest Gutenprint drivers (5.2.0-beta 3). Everything else prints OK - Safari, TextEditor, Excel, Powerpoint but not Word. I get nothing. The only good news is that nothing is exactly what Print Preview predicts! Regardless of whether I create a new document (.doc or .docx) or open one created on another machine, Preview tells me I'll get a blank sheet and that's exactly what I get.

I've reset the print settings, repaired disk permissions, restarted, added the printer back. Zilch! The best I've managed is when printing a .docx file that has images in the Header - two employer logos, one on the left side, one on the right. The one on the left printed out but the text and the one on the right didn't (and neither did any of the text in the document). I saved that document as a .doc file and tried again and the header image doesn't come out.

Any ideas? I have a 10,000 word dissertation I need to hand in hard copy on Monday and time is running out...

Hi Ian:

Save it as RTF or PDF and print from that.

The issue is that Word can't see the printer (that's why you can't see
anything in Print Preview).

I wouldn't guarantee that Word will ever work with the Gutenprint driver: I
have never tried it.

Each of those routers is inserting network address translation layer and a
firewall between Word and the printer. That may be asking too much.

Try the printer connected directly to the computer. If that works, you may
have to assign a fixed IP address to the printer, and set the routers to do
a "pass through" for that IP address.

Hope this helps
